The wreckage of the Titanic could disappear completely by 2030 due to the bacteria, “starving” under the sea. Titanic wreck lies at a depth of 3,800 meters below the seabed of the North Atlantic since 1912, after the ship hit an iceberg and sank. Because too deep under the sea, it is preserved quite well until found in 1985. 30 years have passed since found the wreck of the Titanic, however, now, the scientists said that the wreck is no longer “more time”.
In 2010, a team of scientists from Spain and Canada have studied wreck of the Titanic in the North Atlantic during the past two decades. During the discovery process they discovered a new species of bacteria. Halmonas Titanicae – the name of the bacterium – Safe food for energy. In an article in the Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, the researchers said the bacteria had “chew” 50 thousand tons of iron since the Titanic sank in 1912.
Dr. Henrietta Mann, a researcher at Dalhousie University in Canada admit to prevent the decomposition of the Titanic is impossible. However, the scientists hope the human understanding of bacteria Halmonas Titanicae will help them protect other iron works. At the seabed where the wreck of the Titanic sinking, the salinity of the water is about 3.5%, a favorable condition for the existence of bacteria. Scientists speculated the wreck will disappear, but not too early. However, because of the famous ship, most likely even if it disappears, humanity will never forget the events of the Titanic sinking.
